Do sub-accounts pay the same fees, and does a fee rebate cover their trades?
The fee rate is usually the same: a sub-account trades at its main account's fee tier. Whether its trades count toward referral commission is a rule each exchange sets. BingX says they do — the commission data for a referred user includes the main account and all of its sub-accounts. OKX says sub-account trades also generate rebates when the main account has a rebate rate, and credits them to the main account. MEXC lets only main accounts link a referrer. Either way the referral binding sits on the main account, so the main account's UID is the one you link to a rebate service.
What a sub-account is
A sub-account is created inside your main account and uses the main account's identity — on BingX only the main account goes through KYC (and creating sub-accounts requires its advanced KYC). Funds and positions are kept apart: BingX notes that a liquidation in one sub-account doesn't touch the positions of the main account. Traders use sub-accounts to separate strategies, bots or copy trading from their main balance.
Fee tier: inherited from the main account
- BingX: sub-accounts share the main account's VIP level, and the level is set by the combined trading volume or total assets of the main account and all sub-accounts.
- OKX: a new sub-account inherits the main account's fee tier after 24:00 on the day it is created and trades at that rate from 24:00 the next day; after that the tier follows the main account. How many sub-accounts you can open depends on your fee tier.
- MEXC: a MEXC futures announcement states that sub-accounts get the same trading fee rate as the main account.
So splitting trades across sub-accounts doesn't give you a different rate: each trade still pays notional value × your rate (see how futures fees are calculated), and a rebate on top works the same way it does on any tier (see how VIP tiers and fee rebates combine).
Referral commission on sub-account trades
- BingX answers this directly in its sub-account FAQ: a referrer receives commission on the trading fees of sub-accounts created by the referred user, because the commission data covers the main account and all sub-accounts.
- OKX says in its sub-account FAQ that if the main account has a rebate rate, trades in sub-accounts generate rebates too, and those are credited to the main account.
- MEXC says self-service referrer linking is for main accounts only — sub-accounts can't link a referrer (see adding a MEXC referral code after sign-up). Its help center doesn't describe how sub-account fees are counted for a referrer.
These are the exchanges' rules and they can change them; the BingX FAQ dates from 2023, the OKX FAQ was last updated in September 2026.
Which UID to link
The referral binding belongs to the main account, and so does the UID a rebate service checks — a sub-account UID is usually reported as not found. Link the main account's UID (why rebate services ask for a UID · find your BingX UID). Rebates are calculated from the commission the exchange reports for that account. If most of your volume runs in sub-accounts, compare your first days of accruals with the fees you paid, and if something looks missing go through what to check when a rebate doesn't arrive.
What a sub-account doesn't do
- It doesn't create a new referral. It stays under the main account's binding, whatever that is. To change who the account is bound to, see adding a BingX referral code after sign-up.
- It isn't a way to refer yourself. A sub-account is part of your own account; a separate account opened to refer yourself is a self-referral setup and isn't eligible for payback under loweef's terms.
- On BingX it doesn't get promotions: sub-accounts can't join events or receive Rewards Hub vouchers, and event volume counts only the participating main account.
Frequently asked questions
Do sub-accounts have their own VIP level?
Not on BingX or OKX. BingX sub-accounts share the main account's VIP level, set by the combined volume or assets of all of them; OKX sub-accounts inherit the main account's fee tier from the day after they are created.
Can I enter a referral code on a sub-account?
The referral binding is on the main account. MEXC states that sub-accounts can't link a referrer, and on BingX the referrer's commission already covers the main account and every sub-account.
Which UID should I give a fee rebate service?
The main account's UID. Sub-account UIDs usually aren't found when the service checks the referral binding, because the binding belongs to the main account.
