Referral code vs fee rebate platform — what's the difference?
Both start from the same referral system, but the money flows differently. A typical referral code gives you a one-time welcome perk, while the recurring commission on your trading goes to whoever owns the code. A rebate platform owns the code too — but returns most of that recurring commission to you, 50–67% of every fee, for as long as you trade.
The same pipe, pointed in different directions
When an exchange account is created through any referral — a friend's code, an influencer's link, a rebate platform — the exchange pays the referrer a commission out of the fees that account generates, continuously. That pipe exists either way. The difference is the destination:
- Plain referral code: you may get a welcome voucher or a temporary fee discount; the lifetime commission belongs to the code owner
- Rebate platform: the platform is the code owner, and it pays most of the commission back to you as a daily rebate
One is a one-time gift funded by marketing; the other is a permanent revenue share on your own fees.
What that difference is worth
Welcome perks end. Fees do not — they accrue on every trade for the life of the account. On loweef's partner exchanges the returned share is 50–67% of every fee, plus an extra 10 percentage points of welcome boost in the first 2 weeks. Current rates:
| Exchange | Total rate | Welcome boost | Effective taker |
|---|---|---|---|
| Toobit | 67% | 77% | 0.0198% |
| AlphaX | 65% | — | 0.0175% |
| BingX | 60% | 70% | 0.0200% |
| OKX | 50% | 60% | 0.0250% |
The attribution catch — decide before you register
Referral attribution is fixed at the moment an exchange account is created and generally cannot be changed afterwards. Register with a random code today, and the recurring commission is assigned for good — which is why choosing the referral route is a decision to make before opening the account. On loweef, the right code is applied automatically when you open the exchange account through the platform: see the sign-up guides for how attribution is set per exchange.
If you already have an account, some exchanges support verified paths to a fresh start — the loweef onboarding flow checks the options for your exchange. And whichever route you take, the rebate is only one of four stacking ways to reduce fees. Rebate figures are estimates; funds always stay on your exchange.
Quick definitions in the glossary: referral code · referral commission · rebate platform.
Frequently asked questions
Can I use a referral code and a rebate platform together?
No — attribution is single: an exchange account is referred by exactly one code, set at creation. Registering through a rebate platform uses the platform's code, which is what routes the recurring commission back to you.
I already used someone's referral code. Can I switch to a rebate?
Attribution generally cannot be moved on an existing account. Depending on the exchange, a new account created through the rebate platform's link is the reliable path — some exchanges also support identity transfer to a new account. The loweef onboarding flow shows the exact options per exchange.
Is a rebate platform's welcome boost the same as a code's welcome bonus?
Similar in spirit, different in what follows: after a code's welcome bonus ends you get nothing further, while a rebate continues at 50–67% of every fee for the life of the account.
