Is there a fee to move funds from spot to futures?

Usually no. OKX says internal transfers between OKX accounts are free and credited instantly, and MEXC's futures tutorial says there is no fee for moving funds from spot to futures. BingX's fee schedule lists no charge for moving funds between its accounts — confirm on the transfer screen. A transfer isn't a trade, so it pays no trading fee and produces no rebate; the costs start when you open a position.

What the exchanges say

  • OKX: its help article on transferring funds says internal transfers between OKX accounts are free of charge and credited instantly, and that there are no limits on transfers between funding and trading accounts, or between main and sub-accounts. On OKX the trading account holds both spot and derivatives balances, so moving funds into it is all a futures trade needs.
  • MEXC: its web futures tutorial says that if your futures account has no USDT you can transfer from spot assets, and that there is no fee for the transfer.
  • BingX: its perpetual futures guide describes funding the Perpetual Futures account by transfer from the Fund Account or the Standard Futures account (or by depositing directly). BingX's fee schedule covers spot, futures, conversion and withdrawal fees and has no line for transfers between accounts. It doesn't state "free" in so many words, so check the amount shown on the confirmation screen before you transfer.

These are the exchanges' own help pages and they can change them. An internal transfer stays on the exchange's ledger — no blockchain, no network fee (see internal transfer). Sending coins out of the exchange is a withdrawal, which is a different operation with its own withdrawal fee.

Things that can look like a transfer fee

  • Converting first. A futures account may accept only certain margin coins (USDT for USDT-margined contracts). If you hold something else, you convert it before or during the move, and the conversion has its own cost — Convert is "0 fee" but quoted with a spread.
  • Coin-margined contracts. These take the coin itself as margin, so no conversion is needed, but your margin's value moves with that coin — coin-margined vs USDT-margined fees.
  • Funds that can't move. Margin tied up in open positions or open orders is usually not transferable until you close or cancel, which can look like a missing balance rather than a fee.

Where the costs actually start

Once the money is in the futures account, three costs apply, and none of them is a transfer fee:

  1. Trading fees on every fill — notional value × your maker or taker rate, when you open and again when you close (how futures fees are calculated).
  2. Funding on perpetual contracts, paid or received at each funding time while the position is open (what a funding fee is).
  3. Liquidation charges if the position is force-closed (liquidation fee).

Transfers and fee rebates

A fee rebate returns part of the trading fees your account pays. Moving money between your own accounts generates no trading fee, so it neither adds to nor reduces a rebate — only the trades you place afterwards count. The current figures on loweef's partner exchanges are:

Exchange Total rate Welcome boost Effective taker
AlphaX 65% — 0.0175%
BingX 60% 70% 0.0200%
OKX 50% 60% 0.0250%
MEXC 55% 65% 0.0180%

On the payout side, a rebate paid to your exchange UID is itself an internal transfer, so it arrives without a network fee (how fee rebates are paid out). Figures are estimates based on published fee schedules.

Frequently asked questions

Does OKX charge a fee to move funds to the trading account?

No. OKX says internal transfers between OKX accounts are free and credited instantly, with no limits on transfers between funding and trading accounts.

Is moving USDT from spot to futures on MEXC free?

Yes. MEXC's futures tutorial says you can transfer from spot assets when your futures account has no USDT, and that the transfer has no fee.

Does a transfer count toward my fee rebate?

No. A rebate is a share of the trading fees you pay. Transfers between your own accounts pay no trading fee, so they don't change the rebate; the trades you place afterwards do.

Why can't I transfer my whole futures balance back to spot?

Margin held by open positions or open orders usually can't be transferred until the position is closed or the order is cancelled. The transferable amount on the transfer screen shows what is free to move.
