When does a new VIP fee tier take effect?

Not instantly. Exchanges recalculate VIP fee tiers once a day. OKX's VIP FAQ says it updates fee tiers each day between 4:00 and 6:00 AM (UTC+8), using the higher of your total assets or 30-day trading volume, and adjusts a downgrade the following day. BingX says it updates VIP levels at 03:00 (UTC+8) daily and that a new level activates its discounts immediately. MEXC's futures tier announcement says trader levels update every day at 16:00 (UTC). Trades placed before the update are charged at your old tier.

Update times by exchange

| Exchange | When the tier updates | What it is based on | |---|---|---| | OKX | Daily, 4:00–6:00 AM (UTC+8) | The higher of total account assets or 30-day trading volume | | BingX | Daily, 03:00 (UTC+8) | Any one of 30-day spot volume, 30-day futures volume or asset balance | | MEXC (futures) | Daily, 16:00 (UTC), "may be slightly delayed" | Futures account wallet balance or 30-day trading volume |

What this means in practice

  • Crossing a threshold mid-day doesn't change the fee on your next trade. The new rate starts after the next daily update. BingX notes its volume data refreshes every five minutes, but the level itself changes once a day.
  • No application needed. OKX says no manual application is required; BingX says meeting any one criterion qualifies you automatically.
  • Downgrades follow the same clock. OKX adjusts the tier the following day if your assets or volume fall below the requirement.
  • Volume counts both sides. MEXC defines futures trading volume as opening + closing across all contract types, so a round trip counts twice.
  • Sub-accounts follow the main account. OKX applies the main account's tier to a new sub-account from 00:00 (UTC+8) the day after it is created (sub-account fees and rebates).
  • Zero or negative rates aren't discounted further. MEXC's tier announcement says the tier discount isn't used when the contract fee rate is 0 or negative, and market makers are excluded.

To see how much a tier changes your cost, compare the standard taker rates across exchanges on the crypto futures fee index and work through a trade with how futures fees are calculated. Background on the tiers themselves is in the VIP level glossary entry.

VIP tiers and fee rebates

A fee rebate is a share of the fee you actually paid, so a tier upgrade lowers the fee and the rebate on it by the same proportion — your total cost still falls (how VIP tiers and rebates combine). Current figures on loweef's partner exchanges:

Exchange Total rate Welcome boost Effective taker
AlphaX 65% — 0.0175%
BingX 60% 70% 0.0200%
OKX 50% 60% 0.0250%
MEXC 55% 65% 0.0180%

Figures are estimates based on published fee schedules; tier requirements and update times are set by each exchange and can change.

Frequently asked questions

Why am I still paying my old fee after reaching a higher VIP level?

Because tiers update once a day. OKX updates fee tiers daily between 4:00 and 6:00 AM (UTC+8), BingX at 03:00 (UTC+8) and MEXC futures at 16:00 (UTC); trades before the update use your old tier.

Do I need to apply for a VIP fee tier?

No. OKX says no manual application is required, and BingX says meeting any one of its criteria qualifies you automatically.

Does opening and closing a position both count toward VIP volume?

On MEXC futures, yes — its tier rules define trading volume as opening + closing across all contract types.
