Is there a fee when expiry futures are delivered?
There can be. OKX's delivery rules tell you to refer to its fee rates for the settlement fee of futures, so delivery is a separate line from the trading fee you paid to open. OKX's expiry futures page says the daily settlement of crypto-margined expiry futures charges no fee and doesn't change your position size. Pre-market futures add their own delivery terms: OKX's delivery notices state a settlement fee for that contract and can restrict transfers right after delivery. Perpetual futures never expire, so they have no delivery fee — their ongoing cost is funding.
What happens at delivery on OKX
OKX's "Introduction to delivery/exercise rules" (updated August 2026) says:
- Settlement price: the average of the index price over the last 30 minutes before expiry. (OKX's expiry futures product page describes an average over the final hour, so check the contract details for the instrument you hold.)
- Settlement fee: "Please refer to the fee rate for settlement fee of futures and exercise fee of options" — the delivery charge lives in the fee schedule, not in the article.
- Open orders: pending orders at settlement time are cancelled.
- Extreme markets: an account balance after settlement may become negative after a big loss.
OKX's expiry futures page (updated August 2026) lists weekly, monthly and quarterly crypto-margined contracts and describes a daily settlement at 08:00 UTC, where profit and loss is credited to your balance and the entry price resets. It states: "You won't be charged any fees for settlement and your position size won't be affected" — that is the daily settlement, not the final delivery.
Pre-market futures delivery
Pre-market futures trade a token before it lists and are delivered when the regular market starts. OKX's delivery notice for SCR pre-market futures (October 2024) set the delivery price at the average of the OKX index over the hour before delivery, stated a settlement fee "subject to adjustment as announced", and restricted transfers out of the trading account for 30 minutes after delivery for larger positions. Each pre-market contract gets its own notice, so read it before holding through delivery.
Closing before expiry vs holding to delivery
- Close before expiry: you pay the normal trading fee on the closing order — notional value × your maker or taker rate (how futures fees are calculated).
- Hold to delivery: no closing trade, but the settlement fee in the fee schedule applies, and the price is the settlement average rather than a price you choose.
- Roll to the next contract: a close plus a new open, so two trading fees.
Compare the settlement fee rate with your closing fee rate before deciding; which is lower depends on your fee tier and the contract.
Perpetuals: no delivery, but funding
Perpetual futures have no expiry, so there is no delivery or settlement fee. Instead, positions pay or receive funding at each funding time (what a funding fee is, funding vs trading fee).
Delivery and fee rebates
A fee rebate is calculated from the trading commission the exchange reports for your account. Trading fees on opening and closing are trading commission; whether a delivery settlement fee counts is up to the exchange's program and isn't stated in OKX's delivery rules, so compare your rebate history with the fee lines rather than assuming it does (where to see trading fees paid). Current figures on loweef's partner exchanges:
| Exchange | Total rate | Welcome boost | Effective taker |
|---|---|---|---|
| AlphaX | 65% | — | 0.0175% |
| BingX | 60% | 70% | 0.0200% |
| OKX | 50% | 60% | 0.0250% |
| MEXC | 55% | 65% | 0.0180% |
Figures are estimates based on published fee schedules; delivery terms are set per contract by the exchange.

They can. OKX's delivery rules refer you to its fee rates for the settlement fee of futures, which is separate from the trading fee you paid to open.
Is the daily settlement of expiry futures charged?
No. OKX's expiry futures page says daily settlement charges no fee and doesn't change your position size; it credits profit and loss and resets the entry price.
