Deposit fee
A deposit fee is a charge for receiving funds into an exchange account. Crypto deposits are free on virtually all major exchanges; fees appear mainly on fiat deposit rails.
Exchanges want your assets on-platform, so charging for crypto deposits would be self-defeating — the industry norm is zero. What a crypto deposit does cost is the sending side's network fee: withdrawing from another wallet or exchange to your deposit address pays that venue's withdrawal fee and the chain's transfer cost.
Fiat is where deposit fees live. Card purchases routinely carry percentage fees, and some bank transfer rails or payment processors charge per deposit, varying widely by region and method. P2P markets exist partly as the fee-free fiat on-ramp alternative in many countries.
Practical hygiene: check the fee table for your specific fiat method before funding, prefer free rails (standard bank transfer where supported) over instant-but-charged ones when timing allows, and always send crypto deposits on a network the exchange lists for that asset — a fee-free deposit on the wrong network is how funds get lost, which is infinitely more expensive than any fee.
