WLD Token Unlock Oct 24: What It Costs Futures Traders

2026-10-18 · Facts as of 2026-10-17

For months the WLD chart can look like any other altcoin perp. Then a date on a vesting calendar gets close, the funding timers keep ticking, and the traders who know the date start asking the same question: what if everyone who can sell, does?

We won't guess. This piece asks the question that appears on your statement: what does an unlock window cost a futures trader, whichever way WLD moves?

The date to circle

Worldcoin has a token unlock on October 24. According to Tokenomist, 100,069,444 WLD unlock — 1% of total supply and 1.8% of current market capitalization. By recipient: Community 48.6%, Investors 28.3%, Insiders 23.1%. CoinGlass's vesting page shows the same figures.

Two earlier unlocks are the reference points traders are using. Keep them straight — they are different sizes:

  • September 24 (1.80% of market cap — the same size as this one): WLD fell 11% that day, with $4.36 million in liquidations, mostly longs, and 17.3% over three days (TokenPost, Pluang).
  • July 24 (2.90% of market cap — larger): a 22.3% decline over six days. The World foundation then announced a cut in its daily unlock rate from 5.1 million to 2.9 million WLD (−43%).

Past unlocks are not forecasts. Markets may have priced this one in, or not. We take no view on direction.

Exchange

Cost #1: the fees you pay for reacting

WLD-USDT perpetuals trade on BingX, MEXC and OKX. In a fast move, the sequence is familiar: you are stopped out on the first drop, re-enter on the bounce, get cut again. Every exit and entry is usually a market order — a taker fill.

Cost #1: the fees you pay for reacting
Exchange Total rate Welcome boost Effective taker
BingX 60% 70% 0.0200%
OKX 50% 60% 0.0250%
MEXC 50% — 0.0200%

Taker fees are charged on the full position size, not on margin. As an example, per $10,000 of position:

  • every 0.01% of fee = $1
  • a round trip at a 0.05% taker rate = 0.10% = $10
  • four whipsawed round trips across an unlock day = $40 — on a position you might have opened with $1,000 of margin at 10x

At 10x, $40 is 4% of your margin spent before the trade has made or lost a cent. Volatility doesn't just move the price — it multiplies how often you pay.

What helps: a resting limit order pays the maker rate, lower on every exchange in the table — maker vs taker fees, explained →. On the fees you do pay, a fee payback returns up to 60% of your trading fees on BingX and up to 50% on MEXC at the current combined rates. It covers fees only — not liquidations or losses. Cost #2: the liquidation you can't refund

On September 24, the liquidations were the loudest line. A liquidation is not a fee, but it is the most expensive thing on an unlock day: the exchange closes the position at its price, and getting back in is a fresh taker fill.

As an example, a position at 25x sits roughly 4% from liquidation before fees; at 50x, roughly 2%. A day that moved 11% covers either distance. Read your liquidation price off the order screen before the unlock, with the leverage you actually use.

A pre-unlock checklist (costs only, no calls)

  • Know the date: October 24, and the size: 1% of supply, 1.8% of market cap.
  • Don't mix up the three unlock percentages (1.80%, 2.90%, 1.8%) when comparing.
  • Check your liquidation price at your real leverage.
  • Decide in advance: limit orders (maker) or taker fees on fast exits.
  • Count round trips afterwards — that's where unlock-day fees hide.

The direction is anyone's guess. The costs aren't. Not investment advice.
