Is P2P crypto trading really free, and does it earn a fee rebate?
Usually there is no exchange fee, but the trade isn't free. OKX says there is no service fee for P2P trading and MEXC says there are zero fees on its P2P market; BingX has announced zero P2P trading fees for specific currencies. The cost sits elsewhere: the price is set by the advertiser, often as a margin over the market price, and your bank or payment app may charge its own transfer fee. To see what you really pay, compare the P2P price with the spot price and add any payment fee. Because the exchange charges no trading fee on the P2P trade, there is nothing for a fee rebate to share.
What the exchanges say about P2P fees
- OKX describes P2P as zero fee when you trade, with no service fee for P2P trading — but warns that external payment providers may still charge transaction fees, so check your payment method before proceeding.
- MEXC's P2P FAQ says there are zero fees associated with P2P trading and that your payment service provider may charge additional fees. Its P2P service agreement says neither advertisers nor takers pay fees unless MEXC expressly provides otherwise.
- BingX announced zero trading fees on P2P for a named fiat currency (West African CFA franc) in late 2024. The announcement lists only that currency, so for others check the order screen rather than assuming the same rule.
On all three, the exchange's role is to match the two sides and lock the crypto while the trade completes — MEXC, for example, locks the amount within the order until both parties finish.
Where the cost actually is
The advertiser's price. On a P2P market you buy or sell at a price set by another user. OKX notes that ads can use a floating price, which adds a margin to the market price. That margin is the advertiser's income and it is your cost: it never appears as a fee line, but it is in the amount of crypto you receive or the money you get for it.
Payment fees. Bank transfers, cards and payment apps may charge their own fees outside the exchange. They don't show in your exchange history either.
The comparison that matters. Before you confirm, compare the ad price with the current spot price of the same pair, then add the payment fee. A P2P trade at a price a little above spot plus a transfer charge can cost more than depositing and trading on the order book, where the fee is visible — or less, if the spot route has its own deposit costs. It depends on the ad and the payment method.
Availability depends on where you live
P2P markets and the currencies they support differ by country, and exchanges restrict some services in some jurisdictions. Check the exchange's restricted-services list and the P2P page for your currency before relying on it.
Does P2P earn a fee rebate?
A fee rebate is a share of the trading fees you actually pay, so it only exists where the exchange charges one. A P2P trade with no exchange fee leaves nothing to share, and the advertiser's margin is part of the price, not a fee — it is never rebated. Frequently asked questions
Do exchanges charge a fee for P2P trading?
Usually not. OKX says there is no service fee for P2P trading and MEXC says P2P has zero fees; BingX has announced zero P2P fees for specific currencies. Your bank or payment app may still charge a transfer fee.
What does a P2P trade really cost?
The difference between the advertiser's price and the market price, plus any payment fee. Compare the ad price with the current spot price of the same pair before you confirm.
Do I get a fee rebate on P2P trades?
No. A fee rebate is a share of a trading fee actually charged. P2P trades usually carry no exchange fee, and the advertiser's margin is part of the price, so there is nothing to rebate.
